A flickering light was dancing up and down in the distance. Ray sighed. The village was mostly free from shroomies and thank god it got calmer around the streets. The man rubbed his belly and went outside to greet Kimaro. The pearl kukuri looked at his handler and gave Ray a nod. The two were on patrol near the village. Ray used it as an excuse to pass by the Ashfur’s house, but only his sister knew that. Kimaro disliked patrolling in the outskirts, but he had no other choice and being dragged into the mess outside the village. As the two passed by the cleaning neighbors, they wished them good luck and the two were off.

The morning was cold as Ray and Kimaro reached the first halt. The shroomies weren’t in sight and the two went along the fields. Pumpkins growing like grass and Kimaro noticed another kukuri in the distance. It was Metka. The crimson dove stomped on the fields and as she saw the two coming, she smiled and gave them a warm greeting. Metka knew Kimaro for a short time, but the two got along pretty well. “What are you doing here? Helping others?”, Metka asked and Kimaro forced a smile. “Patrolling. We aren’t a big help though. My friend wants to visit the weird humans that live behind the hills.” “Oh, I know them! They got really dark fellas there, like Reaper and Lilith.” Kimaro nodded. Those two were the reason he didn’t want to visit them, especially when the two ravens were around. “By the way, you shouldn’t go out all alone! It’s dangerous.”, Kimaro warned and Metka started to laugh. “Silly, I am not alone! Bailey’s here too! Bailey, come out!” The fuzzy tailed crimson looked around and suddenly a hazel dove popped out of nowhere. “You called?” The hazel kukuri smiled and as she saw Kimaro and his handler she tackled them. Ray fell off of Kimaro’s back and the pearl colored rook looked in shock. “Why did you do this? You’re way too rough!”, he protested as Ray tried to calm the bunch down. “I’m just happy to see you again.” Bailey smiled and turned her back to the others and said: “Do you want to see something cool? There’s a windmill not far away!” Kimaro gulped, this was Lilith’s favorite spot! “You sure you want to go there? It belongs to the weirdos.” Metka interfered but Bailey ignored her completely and went ahead. Metka looked at Kimaro and the two decided to follow the hazel dove and left Ray behind, who couldn’t keep up.

The three ran through the fields and they reached a barn. The house looked old and abandoned. Bailey pushed the door and went in to investigate. “You can’t just go into a building which doesn’t belong to your human!” Kimaro sighed and rushed after her while Metka just shook her head. The three sneaked around and Metka noticed a strange painting on the wall. “Isn’t this your handler?” Metka pointed to a young man standing in the back, nearly not visible for the eye. “T-This can’t be.” The rook was feeling uneasy and Bailey smiled. “Don’t be such a chicken. This sure isn’t your human friend.” Metka nodded and said: “This human might just look like him.” The three wandered into another room and it smelled like rotten bodies. “I don’t like this house, let’s go out.” Kimaro pushed the two doves out into the next room and it got even worse. The smell was intense and on the walls was black goo. Shroomie goo. “These little monsters…” Bailey wasn’t on good terms with them. The shroomies were hated around the land and it was a pain to get rid of them. Suddenly there was a knock heard outside. Kimaro sighed. It was Ray who finally caught up. The man stormed in as he heard the kukuri’s noises. The house began to shake as Ray met the kukuris and to one second to the next, there was black goo dripping down the walls. Bailey pushed the others out and there were a few shroomies in the corridor. Smashing them under her feet, Metka looked out the windows and saw how the shroomies travelled to the east. “Your friends are going to be in trouble Kimaro.” The rook followed Metka’s gaze and he jumped backwards, bumping into Bailey. “Watch your step!”

The three kukuris made their way through the fields, dragging Ray with them. The man didn’t know what was up but all his protests landed on deaf ears. They sprinted to the villa and saw the shroomies climbing up the fence. “Can you guys stop?”, Ray pleaded but the kukuris jumped over the fence to fend off the intruders. The shroomies ganged up and attacked, but the three knew how to get rid of them and they hold their position in front of the marble figures. Some shroomies escaped inside and Metka went after them, followed by Bailey and Kimaro. Thank god no one was home. The shroomies went into the bedrooms and Bailey chased after them. The bedsheets ripped off, the drawer smashed down, it was pure chaos and there were more and more shroomies getting inside. Fighting off the little pests, Ray stumbled into the dining room. Metka was there, staring at a big painting on the wall. The fuzzy tailed dove looked at the human and Ray smiled a bit. “They like medieval paintings. They are everywhere in here.” Metka tilted her head at the human, did he really believe they let themselves paint in such an old fashioned style?

Meanwhile Kimaro and Bailey went to the attic. Spider webs hanged down and seemed to wait for the poor soul to be trapped in them. Jumping on Bailey’s back, the shroomies bit her neck but Kimaro bit them off. “Thanks, this sure sucks!” “We need to get rid of them before they can destroy the house!” The two eliminated the shroomies in the attic and went back down to the other two companions which were now outside the house to fend off the second wave of shroomies. Metka wiped the creatures away with her fluffy tail, but the hoards were getting bigger. Ray called the kukuris back inside and barricaded the doors and windows. The four sat down and waited in silence. Rattling came out of the chimney in the living room. “This can’t be!” Metka turned around and glimpsed to the chimney’s direction. Shroomies crawled out and hissed at the four survivalists. With no mercy, Bailey smashed their heads in and pulled a drawer in front of the fireplace. “This will keep them out for a while!” The front door, old and weak, gave in and crashed down to the ground. The shroomies rolled in and attacked Bailey at once but Metka slayed them together with Kimaro. Ray ran to the phone and dialed the Ashfur’s cellphone number but he only reached the voice box.

The shroomies hit down the paintings and the three kukuris had all hands full to keep them out of the Ashfur’s house. Still trying to get through to someone, Ray looked outside. It was getting dark and the crops shadows turned into scary figures. Ray growled and went up to the attic. No shroomie in sight, he grabbed one of the old shovels up there. The Ashfurs indeed have strange habits to put shovels into the attic. The man ran down and helped to fend off the small shroom creatures. Loud steps were heard and groaning from the outside. The four were surprised as a raven male bashed into the house and with him a darker female. It was Reaper and Lilith. The two stomped onto the shroomies as they were flies and swiped them away. Lilith growled as she saw Kimaro, Metka and Bailey. “You don’t belong into this house!” “Stop being all snarly and mad! We tried to stop them!” Bailey stood in front of the others and Lilith turned her head away. “Whatever. We’re here now to finish them off, you can go now.” Kimaro gulped and stuttered: “We won’t! We want to help you and you can’t hinder us!” The raven female gazed sharply to the pearled rook and Metka pushed Kimaro softly aside. “Please, let us help Lilith.” The raven growled once again but Reaper gave a nod. He was still exhausted of all of his fights in the city and he learned that working in a group isn’t a bad thing in a situation like this. The kukuris slashed the shroomies but it had no end, until the others arrived. Nori, bulky and heavy, tackled the creatures around while Bianco and Barrey tended to the others wounds. Poor Ray was in the middle of this mess. How can he look the Ashfurs in the eyes when their house is slowly turned into a goo-filled pool? He sighed and hoped the shroomies go away.

A long night was before them. Metka, Bailey and Kimaro successfully defended the house together with Reaper, Nori and Lilith, while Barrey and Bianco were there for medical assistance. Ray, not amused and not so happy, started to clean the floor. He had to be fast, the Ashfurs could be home in any second. The room was filled with silence; only the wooden clock was heard ticking through the floors. The door opened. “Shit”, cursed Ray under his breath. “What the fuck happened here?” It was Jun. The good-looking man stepped inside and looked at the bunch of kukuris, hurled around the floor, not thinking about moving away. “Looks like we got some visitors.” A soft voice giggled and Ray gulped. Not Suki too. The two Ashfurs walked into the living room, seemingly not so amused. “Ray, explain this shit.” Jun looked down on Ray, who forced a smile. “Well, you know, there were shroomies here and… I don’t know how this could happen.” “This isn’t the time to blame the shroomies, how did you even come in here?” Ray pointed at Metka. “She was the first in here!” The marbled dove growled at the human and Suki laughed. Kimaro and Bailey rolled their eyes at them. Stupid humans, what do they even think of us? The kukuris groaned and went back to sleep, they didn’t want to bother with the humans, well, not today. Suki and Jun kneeled down and helped Ray with the cleaning. Surprised, Ray thought that they weren’t as angry as they seemed to be. He was wrong. After the cleaning, they kicked him out of the house and said that they will return Kimaro as soon as the rook got a well rest. Also Bailey and Metka will be sent back home. Since this day, Ray swore not to pass by ever again when he was patrolling the land.
